Information about STEREO-A close approach to Earth, August 2023

Solar Orbiter maximum southern latitude, 19 May 2030

This figure shows the orbital configuration of STEREO Ahead (red) during the period when Solar Orbiter (orange) reaches maximum southern latitude, centered on 19 May 2030. The positions of Solar Orbiter are plotted at one day intervals from five days before maximum latitude to five days after. The sense of motion is counter-clockwise. During this short period, the motions of STEREO and the planets are negligible in the Heliocentric Earth Ecliptic coordinate system which follows Earth's orbital period.

Orbital plot

Note that the projected location of STEREO Behind is also plotted. However, that spacecraft is not currently operational. Follow this link for more information.
