STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2026-09-08 (Week 37) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * None INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * After the initial loss of communications with the Behind observatory in September of 2014, NASA stopped periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 36 (Aug 31 - Sep 6) * On day 246 (Sep 3), during the DSS-54 support, the antenna was halted at 04:37 UT, due to a hardware problem. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 1.2 hours of real-time telemetry, SSR, commanding and tracking data. The MOps team repositioned the SSR pointers during the subsequent DSS-25 track and recovered all the affected data, except for the loss of ~6.3 hours of SECCHI data for days 246 and 247 (times listed below). See DR# M119446 for more information. * On day 244 (Sep 1), the 188th momentum dump was executed successfully at 13:00 UT, which imparted an estimated delta V of 0.065 m/sec. This was the 107th momentum dump conducted without gyro use. After thruster operations completed, there was a 0.9 degree of roll angle error. Fine pointing stabilized 2.3 minutes after completion of the momentum dump. * On days 246 and 247 (Sep 3 & 4), due to the failed DSS-54 track on day 246, the SECHHI SSR Partition 19 reached 100% full for ~6.3 hours of science data loss on: 2026-09-03 20:57 - 23:14 UT (2.3 hours during DSS-35 track) 2026-09-04 17:11 - 21:11 UT (4.0 hours during DSS-43 track) * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 6.5 Gbits during this week. Week 37 (Sep 7-13) * Ahead has ten tracks during the week, all ten at 480 kbps. * APL was closed on Monday, Sep 7, for the Labor Day holiday. * The 30th Solar Orbiter remote sensing window begins Friday, September 11th. Week 38 (Sep 14-20) * Ahead has twelve tracks during the week, all twelve at 480 kbps. * There is a DSN mission network maintenance scheduled for Tuesday, September 15th, from 10:30-14:30 UT. Week 39 (Sep 21-27) * Ahead has fifteen tracks during the week, one at 720 kbps, fourteen at 480 kbps. * An ESA Malargue track is scheduled for Tuesday, September 22nd, from 09:00 to 11:15 UT. * An ESA Malargue track is scheduled for Wednesday, September 23rd, from 09:00 to 11:25 UT. Week 40 (Sep 28 - Oct 4) * Ahead has twelve tracks during the week, all twelve at 480 kbps. Week 41 (Oct 5-11) * Ahead has ten tracks during the week, all ten at 480 kbps. * An ESA Malargue track is scheduled for Tuesday, October 6th, from 08:45 to 11:05 UT. * There is a DSN mission network maintenance scheduled for Tuesday, October 6th, from 16:40 to 20:40 UT. * There is a DCD PIT test scheduled for Saturday, October 10th, from 18:25 to 19:55 during the DSS-36 track. There will be no SSR playback or instrument commanding during this activity. Week 42 (Oct 12-18) * Ahead has fourteen tracks during the week, one at 720 kbps, and thirteen at 480 kbps. * The 189th momentum dump is scheduled for Wednesday, October 14th, at 20:15 UT. * An ESA Malargue track is scheduled for Friday, October 16th, from 06:55 to 08:45 UT. Other * Status update for Madrid: DSS-65 was given a go for return to operational service this afternoon. DSS-63, a 70m antenna,is still planned to return to service in November. * The Senior Review Board has published their report, and STEREO did very well, receiving "Excellent" across the board. Congratulations and thanks to everyone who contributed.
