STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2025-12-16 (Week 51) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * None INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * Four years after the initial loss of communications anomaly with the Behind observatory, NASA has directed to cease periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 50 (Dec 8-14) * On day 343 (Dec 9), the DSS-35 Emergency Control Center (ECC) test was conducted. The purpose was to validate telemetry, commanding, monitor data (MON-0158), tracking data, and voice comms through the ECC. The MOC was not able to perform SLE Telemetry Binds with the ECC servers or Command Binds with DSS-35. The MOC did not received real-time telemetry, commanding, and monitor data. FDF was not able to retrieve tracking data during the ECC testing. The MOC successfully performed voice comms with the DSS-35 and ECC. The station confirmed good downlink telemetry and uplink with the spacecraft. This is a bi-annual test, so another attempt will be made in six months. * On day 344 (Dec 10), APL network engineers successfully performed the MOC quarterly IONET IT security scans from 12:00 to 13:00 UT. * On day 345 (Dec 11), during the DSS-56 support, turbo decoder lock was lost briefly at 05:23, and again at 06:20 UT. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 80 frames of SSR data. The MOPs team repositioned the SSR pointers during the support and recovered all the affected data. See DR #M118568 for more information. * On day 345 (Dec 11), DSN conducted a Mission Network Maintenance from 17:00 through 21:00 UT. After the maintenance, the MOPs team verified the SLE telemetry and command connectivity with DSN. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 7.2 Gbits during this week. Week 51 (Dec 15-21) * Ahead has twelve passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * There will be an ESA New Norcia pass on Tuesday, Dec 16. Week 52 (Dec 22-28) * Ahead has eighteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The STEREO Operations telecon scheduled for Tuesday, Dec 23, will be canceled for the holidays. * APL will be closed for the Christmas holiday Thursday and Friday, Dec 25-26. Week 1 (Dec 29 - Jan 4) * Ahead has sixteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 182nd momentum dump is scheduled for Tuesday, December 30th, at 13:30 UT. * The STEREO Operations telecon scheduled for Tuesday, Dec 30th, will be canceled. * APL will be closed for the New Year's holiday Thursday and Friday, Jan 1-2. Week 2 (Jan 5-11) * Ahead has ten passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 3 (Jan 12-18) * Ahead has thirteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 4 (Jan 19-25) * Ahead has fourteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Other * The NASA Moon to Mars space weather office will be conducting a special campaign from December 29th to January 21st, related to the upcoming Mars solar conjunction. They have requested that they be notified of any special activities that may disrupt the availability of STEREO data during this time period.
