STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2025-10-14 (Week 42) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * None INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * Four years after the initial loss of communications anomaly with the Behind observatory, NASA has directed to cease periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 41 (Oct 6-12) * On day 279 (Oct 6), during the DSS-25 support, the transmitter was declared red, due to a hardware problem. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 3.9 hours of real-time commanding and 2-way tracking data. See DR #G125560 for more information. * On day 285 (Oct 12), during the DSS-55 support, turbo decoder lock was lost briefly at 03:39 UT. This anomaly resulted in the loss of ten frames of SSR data. The MOPs team repositioned the SSR pointers during the support and recovered all the affected data. * On day 282 (Oct 9), the 180th momentum dump was executed successfully at 20:00 UT, which imparted an estimated delta V of 0.055 m/sec. This was the 99th momentum dump conducted without gyro use. After thruster operations completed, there was a 0.8 degree of roll angle error. Fine pointing stabilized 3.2 minutes after completion of the momentum dump. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 8.3 Gbits during this week. Week 42 (Oct 13-19) * Ahead has thirteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * A DSN network maintenance event was conducted on Monday, October 13th, with no negative impacts. * An ESA Cebreros track is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15th, from 02:30 to 04:30 UT. * On Saturday, October 18th, the MOC will have a commercial power outage from 10:00 to 22:00 UT, to facilitate power service being added to a new building being constructed nearby. The APL electrical team has now put together a plan to switch the MOC to generator power during the outage, so it will not have to be relocated to another building. Week 43 (Oct 20-26) * Ahead has fourteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Sunday, October 26th, is the 19th launch anniversary of STEREO! Week 44 (Oct 27-Nov 2) * Ahead has sixteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Daylight Savings Time ends Sunday, Nov 2nd. Week 45 (Nov 3-9) * Ahead has fifteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 46 (Nov 10-16) * Ahead has thirteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * APL will be closed on Tuesday, November 11 for the Veterans Day holiday. * An ESA Malargue track is scheduled for Thursday, November 13th, from 07:30 to 09:50 UT. * The 6th IMU2 EEPROM refresh is scheduled on Ahead on Thursday, November 13th, at 11:00 UT. This procedure is recommended by the manufacturer to be conducted every three years. Week 47 (Nov 17-13) * Ahead has thirteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 181st momentum dump is scheduled for Tuesday, November 18th, at 18:30 UT. Other * The DSS-14 downtime has now been extended to January 2026, which has required missions to reconfigure planned schedules.
