STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2025-10-07 (Week 41) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * None INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * Four years after the initial loss of communications anomaly with the Behind observatory, NASA has directed to cease periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 40 (Sep 29 - Oct 5) * On day 272 (Sep 29), during the DSS-26 support, the beginning of track was delayed three minutes until 09:38 UT, due to low elevation. This anomaly resulted in the loss of three minutes of real-time telemetry, tracking, and SSR data. The MOPs team repositioned the SSR pointers during the support and recovered all the affected data. See DR #G125538 for more information. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 8.0 Gbits during this week. Week 41 (Oct 6-12) * Ahead has fourteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 180th momentum dump is scheduled for Thursday, October 9, at 20:00 UT. Week 42 (Oct 13-19) * Ahead has thirteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * There is a DSN network maintenance event scheduled for Monday, October 13th, from 06:30-14:30 UT. * An ESA Cebreros track is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15th, from 02:30 to 04:30 UT. * On Saturday, October 18th, the MOC will have a commercial power outage from 10:00 to 22:00 UT, to facilitate power service being added to a new building being constructed nearby. During this time MOC operations will be moved to a backup location in building 200. Week 43 (Oct 20-26) * Ahead has fourteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Sunday, October 26th, is the 19th launch anniversary of STEREO! Week 44 (Oct 27-Nov 2) * Ahead has sixteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Daylight Savings Time ends Sunday, Nov 2nd. Week 45 (Nov 3-9) * Ahead has fifteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 46 (Nov 10-16) * Ahead has twelve passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * APL will be closed on Tuesday, November 11 for the Veterans Day holiday. * The 6th IMU2 EEPROM refresh is scheduled on Ahead on Thursday, November 13th, during the DSS-14 track. This procedure is recommended by the manufacturer to be conducted every three years. Other * There was discussion regarding the impacts the US government shutdown might have on STEREO operations. Lu reported that DSN operations are considered critical and should continue as usual. The STEREO Science Center is staffed by contractors who will continue to work remotely during the shutdown. NASA civil servants will be unavailable.
