STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2025-09-02 (Week 36) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * None INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * Four years after the initial loss of communications anomaly with the Behind observatory, NASA has directed to cease periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 35 (Aug 25-31) * On day 239 (Aug 27), DSN conducted a Mission Network Maintenance from 15:00 through 23:00 UT. After the maintenance, the MOPs team verified the SLE telemetry and command connectivity with DSN. * On day 242 (Aug 30), during the DSS-55 support, turbo decoder lock was lost briefly at 07:00 UT, and again at 07:25 UT. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 40 frames of SSR data. The MOPs team repositioned the SSR pointers during the support and recovered all the affected data. * On day 237 (Aug 25), the 76th SECCHI stepped calibration was executed at 21:00 UT for midpoint in the Ahead orbit. This was the 45th SECCHI stepped calibration roll conducted without gyro use. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 7.4 Gbits during this week. Week 36 (Sep 1-7) * Ahead has seventeen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * APL was closed on Monday, Sep 1, for the Labor Day holiday. * An ESA Cebreros track is scheduled for Wednesday, September 3rd, from 02:10 to 06:10 UT. * The 179th momentum dump is scheduled for Thursday, September 4th, at 19:30 UT. * The 22nd Solar Orbiter remote sensing window begins Sunday, September 7th. Week 37 (Sep 8-14) * Ahead has sixteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * There is a DSN network maintenance event scheduled from Monday, September 8th, at 22:00 UT to Tuesday at 06:00 UT * On Tuesday, September 9th, there will be a PLASTIC real time commanding window between 18:20 and 21:45 UT to allow them to increase MCP voltage. A backup window is scheduled for Wednesday, September 10th, from 19:10 to 23:10 UT. * Beginning Friday, September 12th, SECCHI will be conducting special observations in conjunction with the Parker Solar Probe perihelion. * The 23rd Solar Orbiter remote sensing window begins Saturday, September 13th. Week 38 (Sep 15-21) * Ahead has eighteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 39 (Sep 22-28) * Ahead has sixteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The IMAP is scheduled to launch on Tuesday, September 23rd. There are several possible track deletions during the week if this launch is postponed. Week 40 (Sep 29 - Oct 5) * Ahead has twelve passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 24th Solar Orbiter remote sensing window begins Wednesday, October 1st. Week 41 (Oct 6-12) * Ahead has fourteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 180th momentum dump is scheduled for Thursday, October 9, at 20:00 UT. * The DSN ECC test originally scheduled for this week has been pushed back to December 9th. Other * There was continued discussion of increasing the frequency of level-0 data processing. Both the S/WAVES and PLASTIC teams thought lower latency would be useful for space weather purposes. Owen indicated that he has looked into it and found that it was probably doable at the MOC with minimal impact, so he will try to get a second daily processing run implemented.
