STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2025-08-26 (Week 35) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * None INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * Four years after the initial loss of communications anomaly with the Behind observatory, NASA has directed to cease periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 34 (Aug 18-24) * On day 230 (Aug 18), APL network engineers successfully performed the MOC IONET quarterly IT security scans from 14:00 to 15:00 UT. * On day 232 (Aug 20), during the DSS-55 support, turbo decoder lock was lost briefly at 02:59 UT. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 57 frames of SSR data. The MOPs team repositioned the SSR pointers during the support and recovered all the affected data. See DR #M118220 for more information. * On day 234 (Aug 22), the SECCHI instrument reset at 07:30:54 UT. The SECCHI team reconfigured the instrument to operational mode by 12:13 UT. This was the 85th reset of the SECCHI instrument on the Ahead observatory. * On day 235 (Aug 23), during the DSS-34 support, turbo decoder lock was lost intermittently between 19:16 and 19:20 UT. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 19 frames of SSR data. The MOPs team repositioned the SSR pointers during the support and recovered all the affected data. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 7.5 Gbits during this week. Week 35 (Aug 25-31) * Ahead has thirteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 76th SECCHI stepped calibration roll was conducted on Monday, August 25th, at 21:00 UT. The event was nominal. * There is a DSN network maintenance event scheduled on Wednesday, August 27th, from 15:00-23:00 UT. Week 36 (Sep 1-7) * Ahead has seventeen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * APL will be closed on Monday, Sep 1, for the Labor Day holiday. * An ESA Cebreros track is scheduled for Wednesday, September 3rd, from 02:10 to 06:10 UT. * The 179th momentum dump is scheduled for Thursday, September 4th, at 19:30 UT. * The 22nd Solar Orbiter remote sensing window begins Sunday, September 7th. Week 37 (Sep 8-14) * Ahead has sixteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * There is a DSN network maintenance event scheduled from Monday, September 8th, at 22:00 UT to Tuesday at 06:00 UT * Beginning Friday, September 12th, SECCHI will be conducting special observations in conjunction with the Parker Solar Probe perihelion. * The 23rd Solar Orbiter remote sensing window begins Saturday, September 13th. Week 38 (Sep 15-21) * Ahead has eighteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 39 (Sep 22-28) * Ahead has sixteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The IMAP is scheduled to launch on Tuesday, September 23rd. There are several possible track deletions during the week if this launch is postponed. Week 40 (Sep 29 - Oct 5) * Ahead has twelve passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 24th Solar Orbiter remote sensing window begins Wednesday, October 1st. Other * Keith Goetz asked about the possibility of increasing the frequency of level-0 processing runs from once per day to twice per day, in order to decrease data latency and better support to the space weather community. Owen Dudley was not present to respond, but Keith several particpants requested a cc of the email exchange Owen and Keith had on this topic.
