STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2023-08-29 (Week 35) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * None INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * Four years after the initial loss of communications anomaly with the Behind observatory, NASA has directed to cease periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 34 (Aug 21-27) * On day 235 (Aug 23), during the DSS-14 support, the transmitter was declared red due to a hardware problem. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 3.9 hours of real-time commanding and 2-way tracking data. See DR # G123922 for more information. * On day 233 (Aug 21), the spacecraft ended the slow roll, which began on day 219 (Aug 7) for closest approach to Earth (occurred on Aug 17, 2023). * As of day 239 (Aug 27), all PLASTIC systems are behaving well, except there is a moderate background count rate, which the team is continuing to monitor. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 6.8 Gbits during this week. Week 35 (Aug 28-Sep 3) * Ahead has nine passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The momentum dump on Ahead that was scheduled for today (Aug 29) had to be cancelled due to the station 25 transmitter being declared red. The momentum dump is now tentatively scheduled for 00:30 UT on Saturday, Sep 2 (late Friday local time). The instrument teams reported that they expect to be ready for the modified date. There is sufficient margin on the momentum so that the several day delay should not be an issue. Week 36 (Sep 4-10) * Ahead has nine passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. An ESA New Norcia pass was added for Saturday afternoon, Sep 9. * Monday, Sep 4, is Labor Day, which is an APL holiday. Week 37 (Sep 11-17) * Ahead has twelve passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. An ESA New Norcia pass was added for Saturday, Sep 16. Week 38 (Sep 18-24) * Ahead has thirteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 160th momentum dump on Ahead is scheduled for Tuesday, Sep 19, with ignition at 14:00 UT. * The second SECCHI high telemetry campaign starts on Saturday, Sep 23, to coincide with the Parker Solar Probe perihelion pass. Both end on Oct 3. Week 39 (Sep 25- Oct 1) * Ahead has eighteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Week two of the SECCHI high telemetry campaign, coincides with the Parker Solar Probe perihelion pass. Week 40 (Oct 2-8) * Ahead has twelve passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * SECCHI high telemetry campaign ends Tuesday, Oct 3. Other * The results of the Senior Review is out. STEREO will move to an infrastructure mission, which mostly affects science funding. Operations funding will continue, as well as work supporting data validation.
