STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2023-06-27 (Week 26) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * None INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * Four years after the initial loss of communications anomaly with the Behind observatory, NASA has directed to cease periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 25 (Jun 19-25) * On day 172 (Jun 21), during the DSS-25 support for Ahead, the real-time telemetry delivered to the MOC had an incorrect DOY for ground receipt time (GRT) that started at 2023-172-19:46z, at seconds “20” the GRT DOY jumped forward by two days to 2023-174-19:46:20z, and it continued to be reported incorrectly as DOY 174 for the remainder of the track. The IDR telemetry file generation and delivery from the Data Capture and Delivery Subsystem (DCD) also stopped at 1946z. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 8.5 hours of SSR data. DSN regenerated the IDR telemetry files on DOY 173 and recovered all the affected data. See DR #G123792 for more information. * The STEREO Science Center will investigate whether this had any effect on beacon processing. * On day 176 (Jun 25), during the DSS-54 support for Ahead, the antenna was declared red, due to a mechanical problem. This anomaly resulted in the loss of four hours of real-time telemetry, command, tracking and SSR data. The MOPs team repositioned the SSR pointers during the subsequent DSS-35 track and recovered all the affected data. See DR #M115970 for more information. * As of day 176 (Jun 25), all PLASTIC systems on Ahead are behaving well, except there is a moderate background count rate, which the team is continuing to monitor. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 5.8 Gbits during this week. Week 26 (Jun 26-Jul 2) * Ahead has ten tracks during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Solar Orbiter will be observing a Mercury transit today, Jun 27. * The Behind spacecraft is predicted to have its closest approach to Earth on Sunday, Jul 2. There are planned attempts to find Behind optically with telescopes used for Near Earth Object detection, but the estimated brightness is close to the limit of what can be observed. Week 27 (Jul 3-Jul 9) * Ahead has fifteen tracks during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Additional tracks for SECCHI high downlink campaign (Weeks 27-31), which starts on July 3. * Tuesday, July 4, Independence Day, is an APL holiday.
