STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2023-06-20 (Week 25) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * None INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * Four years after the initial loss of communications anomaly with the Behind observatory, NASA has directed to cease periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 24 (Jun 12-18) * On day 168 (Jun 17), during the DSS-43 support for Ahead, turbo decoder lock was lost intermittently between 0410z and 0506z. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 4640 frames of SSR data. The MOPs team repositioned the SSR pointers during the support and recovered all the affected data. See DR #C117329 for more information. * On day 163 (Jun 12), the 67th SECCHI stepped calibration on Ahead was executed at 1650z for perihelion in the Ahead orbit. This was the 36th SECCHI stepped calibration roll conducted without gyro use. * On day 163, after the SECCHI stepped calibration, fine pointing was lost intermittently beginning at 163-2150z through 164-1456z. These occurrences were due to the reaction wheels operating at low speeds with no gyro operations. These transients can occur with no gyro operations and are not indicative of any problem with the spacecraft G&C. * On day 164 (Jun 13), the 157th momentum dump on Ahead was executed successfully at 2000z, which imparted an estimated delta V of 0.069 m/sec. This was the 76th momentum dump conducted without gyro use. After thruster operations completed, there was a 1.1 degree of roll angle error. Fine pointing stabilized three minutes after completion of the momentum dump. * As of day 169 (Jun 18), all PLASTIC systems on Ahead are behaving well, except there is a moderate background count rate, which the team is continuing to monitor. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 6.1 Gbits during this week. Week 25 (Jun 19-25) * Ahead has nine tracks during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The SECCHI schedule for the PSP perihelion has been changed since the last telecon due to limited telemetry. * There is an online STEREO science meeting today and tomorrow. Week 26 (Jun 26-Jul 2) * Ahead has ten tracks during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Solar Orbiter will be observing a Mercury transit on Tuesday, Jun 27. * The Behind spacecraft is predicted to have its closest approach to Earth on Sunday, Jul 2. There are planned attempts to find Behind optically with telescopes used for Near Earth Object detection, but the estimated brightness is close to the limit of what can be observed. Week 27 (Jul 3-Jul 9) * Ahead has fifteen tracks during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Additional tracks for SECCHI high downlink campaign (Weeks 27-31), which starts on July 3. * Tuesday, July 4, Independence Day, is an APL holiday. The status meeting that day is canceled * Tuesday, July 4 ESA Malargüe track 20:00-24:00 UT * Thursday, July 6 ESA Malargüe track 20:00-23:45 UT * Details on the SECCHI high downlink campaign have been added to the STEREO calendar at https://stereo-ssc.nascom.nasa.gov/plans.shtml. Week 28 (July 10-16) * Ahead has sixteen tracks during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Additional tracks for SECCHI high downlink campaign (Weeks 27-31) Week 29 (Jul 17-23) * Ahead has fifteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 158th momentum dump is scheduled for Monday, Jul 17, with ignition at 19:30 UT. * Additional tracks for SECCHI high downlink campaign (Weeks 27-31) Week 30 (Jul 24-30) * Ahead has fifteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Additional tracks for SECCHI high downlink campaign (Weeks 27-31) Week 31 (Jul 31-Aug 6) * Ahead has thirteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Last week of SECCHI high downlink campaign, ends on Wednesday, Aug 2. * An ESA Malargüe track is scheduled for Monday, Jul 31. An additional ESA track on Tuesday, Aug 1, was removed from the schedule when DSN track time became available. * The 14th battery discharge event is scheduled for Thursday, Aug 3, starting at 15:00 UT.
