STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2022-12-13 (Week 50) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * There will be no weekly meeting on Tuesday, Dec 27, due to the holiday season. * The next STEREO Annual Assessment is planned for Thursday, Feb 16, 2023, from 8:30-12:00 EST. A meeting announcement will be sent out soon. The instrument teams are invited to present their instrument status. Because APL is retiring Webex, the meeting will be done via Conference Manager, which is browser-based. INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * Four years after the initial loss of communications anomaly with the Behind observatory, NASA has directed to cease periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 49 (Dec 5-11) * On day 343 (Dec 9), during the DSS-36 support for Ahead, turbo decoder lock was lost briefly at 0838z. This anomaly resulted in the loss of six frames of SSR data. The MOPs team repositioned the SSR pointers during the subsequent DSS-24 track and recovered all the affected data. * As of day 345 (Dec 11), all PLASTIC systems on Ahead are behaving well, except there is a moderate background count rate, which the team is continuing to monitor. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 6.9 Gbits during this week. Week 50 (Dec 12-18) * Ahead has ten tracks during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. The schedule was modified because of network maintenance activity at the Madrid station, and then modified again for the Artemis mission. ESA Malague tracks were added on Monday, Dec 12, and on Tuesday, Dec 13. * The STEREO AHEAD track for today (Dec 13) is changing to accommodate the HMAP Spacecraft Emergency. STEREO is moving off of DSS-56 because HMAP was scheduled to use the now RED antenna DSS-53. STEREO is moving over to DSS-53 with the hope that it will be repaired by 1855z today. If DSS-53 is not repaired today, we will lose the track time. Week 51 (Dec 19-25) * Ahead has nine tracks during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 152 momentum dump is scheduled for Monday, Dec 19, with ignition at 18:30 UT. * The Project Interface Test originally scheduled with station 25 on Friday, Dec 23 has been moved to Saturday, Dec 24, and will be carried out on station 35. There will be no instrument commanding or SSR playback during this pass. * Sunday, Dec 25, is Christmas. The APL holiday will be on Monday, Dec 26. Week 52 (Dec 27-Jan 1) * Ahead has ten tracks during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * APL will observe the Christmas holiday on Monday, Dec 26. * There will be no telecon on Tuesday, Dec 27. Week 1 (Jan 2-8) * Ahead has nine tracks during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * Solar Orbiter will be observing a transit of Mercury on Tuesday, Jan 3. * APL will observe the New Year holiday on Monday, Jan 2. Week 2 (Jan 9-15) * Ahead has nine tracks during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 3 (Jan 16-22) * Ahead has ten tracks during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal.
