STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2009-09-08 (Week 37) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * The SSC will be without cooling during the weekend of September 11, and may not be available. * Power will be out to the SSC during the weekend of September 18. The SSC will continue on emergency power, but there will be periods at the beginning and end of the weekend when the SSC will not be available for switching between power supplies. * The SECCHI team reports that they have switched their SSR2 buffer into an event detection mode. INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * All subsystems on both spacecraft are nominal. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 36 * The station 34 pass on Ahead on day 245 (Sep 2) was cancelled because of the LCROSS emergency. The LCROSS emergency first affected the Ahead schedule on day 234 (Aug 22), and the SSR buffers were not completely emptied until day 247 (Sep 4). In between there were a number of gaps in the SSR coverage. * Telemetry lock was lost twice during the station 45 pass on Ahead on day 246 (Sep 3) for a total loss of 18 minutes of telemetry. This resulted in a loss of about an hour of SSR data for each instrument. A sharp drop-off in signal was seen both times. Both the spacecraft and the receiver appeared nominal. * New autonomy rule verion 2.3.11 was loaded to C&DH RAM and EEPROM on day 245 (Sep 2). This was a minor change to remove a response to a G&C software bug when GT rate usage is lost. This bug was corrected in the new G&C software, and the autonomy rule is no longer needed. * There was some discussion about whether the change in autonomy rule would eliminate the need to disable GT usage prior to SECCHI instrument recovery. The SECCHI and MOC teams will continue this discussion off-line. * An emergency on the MESSENGER spacecraft caused the station 55 pass on Behind on day 245 (Sep 2) to be shortened to 2.7 hours, and the track on the following day (Sep 3) to shifted to 2.7 hours later. However, all SSR data were recovered. * The average daily SSR downlink was 5.0 gigabits for Ahead, and 6.7 gigabits for Behind. Week 37 * There is a DSN test track using station 47 on Ahead concurrently with the station 45 track today (Sep 8). The station 47 track will be downlink only. * The 10th SECCHI stepped calibration will be carried out on Ahead on day 253 (Sep 10), starting at 12:45. This is the midpoint calibration. The actual midpoint is on day 243 (Aug 31). The expected system momentum is 5 N-m-s. * Behind transitioned to 360 kbps this morning (Sep 8), starting with the station 55 track at 14:05. * There will be a four hour return-to-service for Behind using station 54 on Sep 10. The SSR will not be played back during this track, and the instrument command queues will not be opened. * Ahead will pass the L4 Lagrange point on Sep 12. Week 38 * The 18th momentum dump on Behind is scheduled for day 259 (Sep 16), with ignition at 17:00 UT. * There are a number of DSN contentions during the week which will lead to shortened tracks, primarily due to the LCROSS mission. On Sep 15, the Ahead pass will be 4.5 hours, and the Behind pass will be 3.7 hours. Short Behind passes will also occur on Thursday (Sep 10) for 2 hours, Friday (Sep 11) for 3.3 hours, and Saturday (Sep 12) for 3.7 hours. * The Herschel sounding rocket is scheduled for launch on Monday, Sept 14. Week 39 * G&C software load 3.2.6 will be written to copy 1 on Behind on day 265 (Sep 22). This is the same version currently in use in copy 2. * JOP 224, "Solar Tomography with Minimal Solar Rotation", starts on Sep 27, and runs through Oct 27. * More short passes will occur for Ahead on Wednesday (Sep 23) for 4.3 hours, Thursday (Sep 24) for 5.1 hours, and Friday (Sep 25) for 5 hours. Short passes for Behind occur on Tuesday (Sep 22) for 4.7 hours, Wednesday (Sep 23) for 5.3 hours, Thursday (Sep 24) for 5.9 hours, Friday (Sep 25) for 3.7 and 5 hours, and Saturday (Sep 26) for 5.3 hours. Week 40 * G&C software load 3.2.6 will be written to copy 1 on Ahead on day 272 (Sep 29). * Messenger flies by Mercury on day 272 (Sep 29). * Several shortened passes are scheduled on both Ahead and Behind during the week.
