STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2009-09-01 (Week 36) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * An emergency on the LCROSS spacecraft has affected the Ahead DSN schedule. See below for details. * Behind will transition to 360 kbps on Sep 8. INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * All subsystems on both spacecraft are nominal. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 35 * The DSN schedule for Ahead has been disrupted several times because of an emergency on the LCROSS spacecraft. The problem started on day 235 (Aug 23), when the station 45 pass on Ahead was cancelled. Since then, the instrument partitions have not been completely emptied, although that may be accomplished during the track today (Sep 1). This has resulted in several gaps in telemetry for all the instruments during the week. The LCROSS emergency is expected to continue through the end of tomorrow (Sep 2). * The station 25 pass on Ahead on day 240 (Aug 28) was shifted 3.3 hours earlier, and reduced to 5.7 hours, due to the LCROSS emergency. This resulted in the loss of several minutes of SECCHI data. * The station 26 pass on Ahead on day 241 (Aug 29) was shifted to 10 hours earlier, and reduced to 5 hours because of the LCROSS emergency. This resulted in about an hour of PLASTIC and SECCHI data. * The MOC team is unable to track the data loss for SWAVES telemetry, but that team also reports gaps. IMPACT automatically lowers their telemetry rate when their buffer is close to full, sending down only housekeeping. Thus, they are also seeing gaps in their data, even if it's not reported as a data loss. * The 24th momentum dump was carried out on Ahead on day 238 (Aug 26) at 14:00 UT. A delta-V of 0.0696 m/s was imparted. * Telemetry lock was intermittent during the station 55 pass on Behind on day 237 (Aug 25). This resulted in the loss of 290 frames of mostly SECCHI data. * Telemetry lock was again intermittent during the station 55 pass on Behind on day 239, beginning at 16:05 UT. This resulted in the loss of 230 frames of mostly SECCHI data. * SECCHI flight software version 1.14.00 was uploaded to Behind to improve the HI2 beacon images. * The average daily SSR download was 4.3 gigabits on Ahead, and 6.0 gigabits on Behind. Week 36 * The second pass on Ahead tomorrow (Sep 2) has been cancelled because of the LCROSS emergency. * Behind will have a 4.1 hour track tomorrow (Sep 2). Week 37 * There is a DSN test track using station 47 on Ahead concurrently with the station 45 track. The station 47 track will be downlink only. * The 10th SECCHI stepped calibration will be carried out on Ahead on day 253 (Sep 10), starting at 12:45. This is the midpoint calibration. The actual midpoint is on day 243 (Aug 31). The expected system momentum is 5 N-m-s. * Labor day is Sep 7. * Behind will transition to 360 kbps on day 251 (Sep 8), starting with the station 55 track at 14:05. * There will be a four hour return-to-service for Behind using station 54 on Sep 10. The SSR will not be played back during this track. * Ahead will pass the L4 Lagrange point on Sep 11. Week 38 * The 18th momentum dump on Behind is scheduled for day 259 (Sep 16), with ignition at 17:00 UT. Week 39 * G&C software load 3.2.6 will be written to copy 1 on Behind on day 265 (Sep 22). This is the same version currently in use in copy 2. * JOP 224, "Solar Tomography with Minimal Solar Rotation", starts on Sep 27, and runs through Oct 27. Week 40 * G&C software load 3.2.6 will be written to copy 1 on Ahead on day 272 (Sep 29). * Messenger flies by Mercury on day 272 (Sep 29). Other * The Chandrayaan mission has ended, and is no longer competing for DSN time. * APL asks about the switch to Turbo encoding for the beacon, and advises that they need two weeks warning to make the switch.
