STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2009-04-14 (Week 16) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * Station 14 will be down for about two weeks. This unexpected down time may cause changes in schedule because of contentions with other missions. INSTRUMENT AND SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * All subsystems on both spacecraft are nominal, except that the Ahead spacecraft is currently operating on IMU #2. * Behind is also operating on IMU #2 for testing. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 15 * A return-to-service track was carried out on station 43 with the Ahead spacecraft on day 99 (Apr 9). The transmitter was red before the track due to high temperatures, and the track was ended early. Reception of telemetry and monitoring data was tested successfully during the track. * The second HI 180 degree roll maneuvers were carried out on both spacecraft on day 98 (Apr 8), starting at 03:50 for Ahead, and 07:50 for Behind. * The station 34 transmitter went offline for 28 minutes during the Behind pass on day 101 (Apr 11), starting at 07:11, because of lightning. Heavy rain also caused intermittent telemetry lock for 53 minutes, starting at 07:41. * The 9th SECCHI stepped calibration roll was carried out on Behind on day 97 (Apr 7) starting at 01:40 UT. * SWAVES successfully reloaded software version 3.88 on Behind on day 98 (Apr 8) to investigate their EEPROM anomaly. Week 16 * Tomorrow (Apr 15) the flight operations team will start adjusting the best-lock frequency on both spacecraft to account for drifts which have occurred on the order of 3-4 kHz. * On Thursday (Apr 16), IMPACT will be uploading a small software patch on both spacecraft to remove STE-U from the telemetry, as well as some other adjustments. * The Behind spacecraft will switch back to IMU #1 tomorrow (Apr 15), during the track starting at 16:30 UT. * There will be an uplink range sweep test on Thursday, April 16. This test will make sure that DSN can acquire uplink after reset. * There will be an internal review tomorrow (Apr 15) for the G&C flight software change. The results will be sent to the instrument teams for comment. A management meeting, including the instrument teams, will be scheduled after this for approving the change. This will probably be a telecon. * Station 14 will be down for about two weeks. The G&C reset is currently scheduled to use station 14 for the reset on May 12. If this falls through, the reset will probably be delayed. * A SUMER campaign is scheduled for Apr 15-29. SECCHI will support this with their special event buffer. Week 17 * There will be an unusually long 34 hour DSN gap on Ahead between Wednesday and Thursday (Apr 22-23). APL measures the gap duration as being between the end of the first track and the beginning of the next. The SECCHI team prefers to measure the duration between the track ends, because that's when the pointers are reset. Measured that way, the duration is 39 hours, and there was a similar 40 hour gap last week. The SECCHI team comments that such large gaps are happening more often now. One reason is because Ahead is now lined up with Mars, leading to more DSN contention. The Behind tracks have less contention, but are currently showing up mostly at night. To alleviate the strain on SECCHI, it was decided to move the pointers an hour into the track on Thursday. * The 15th momentum dump is scheduled for Behind on day 112 (Apr 22) at 3 UT. The intent is to be near zero momentum on May 12. Week 18 * The third SECCHI 180 degree roll on Ahead is scheduled for Apr 28 at 19:50 UT. The system momentum will be around 7 Nm/s.
