STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2009-03-17 (Week 12) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * APL is gathering instrument input for the planned G&C software load. See details below. INSTRUMENT AND SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * All subsystems on both spacecraft are nominal, except that the Ahead spacecraft is currently operating on IMU #2. * Behind is also operating on IMU #2 for testing. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 11 * A SECCHI stepped calibration roll was carried out on Ahead on day 69 (Mar 10). This was the midpoint roll. * SECCHI-Ahead experienced the 9th watchdog reset on day 69 (Mar 10) at 08:36. SECCHI was recovered during the next track on day 70 (Mar 11), and the schedule was restarted at 14:00 UT. * The first HI 180 degree roll to examine the L4/L5 points took place on Ahead on day 71 (Mar 12). There was a 5.1 degree off point during the roll on the way back to the nominal position. This cause the PLASTIC entrance aperture to turn off, and the IMPACT STE-D door to close. Both were recovered during the next track. A smaller offpoint of 3 degrees occured during the initial roll to 180 degrees, but did not cause any instrument problems. G&C is looking into why the offpoint occurred. In the meantime, two wait points at 60 and 120 degrees have been added to the maneuver to avoid the problem. These wait points do not change the timing of the maneuver. * On day 70 (Mar 11), telemetry lock was lost briefly during the Behind pass on station 15, starting at 04:40. Some SECCHI SSR data were lost. * The 20th momentum dump on Behind was carried out on day 68 (Mar 9), starting at 20:00 UT, imparting a momentum change of 0.0534 m/s. * Behind reached perihelion on day 70 (Mar 11), at 15:28 UT. * Behind is still operating on IMU #2 for testing. It is performing nominally. The switch back to IMU #1 is planned for Apr 8. * The average daily SSR playback was 5.5 gigabits on Ahead, and 6.1 gigabits on Behind. Week 12 * The first HI 180 degree roll on Behind is scheduled for tomorrow (Mar 18), starting at 15:50 UT. * SECCHI planned to carry out tests of a new observing campaign today on both spacecraft. Because of some commanding errors, observations on Behind stopped at 04:00 UT, and will resume at 00:00 UT. * DSN recommends that SSR playback be delayed by 50 minutes during the station 15 pass on Behind on Friday, because of expected RF interference. Week 13 * The 20th momentum dump is scheduled for Ahead on Mar 25, at 14:30 UT. Thrusting is expected to take 4-5 minutes. Typically, thrusting on Behind is shorter, around 3 minutes. * The EIT shutterless campaign (JOP 80) is scheduled for Mar 27, and is combined with JOP 216 on polar plumes. * SWAVES plans to do a memory load on both spacecraft. They require 2 hours of solid commanding, followed by a period of sporadic commanding. Week 14 * The EIT shutterless campaign (JOP 80) is scheduled for Apr 2, and is combined with JOP 216 on polar plumes. Week 15 * The next HI 180 degree roll maneuvers are scheduled for Apr 8 on both spacecraft, starting at 03:50 for Ahead, and 07:50 for Behind. Scheduling is mainly driven by the system momentum. * The next SECCHI stepped calibration roll on Behind is scheduled for Tuesday, Apr 7, starting on 01:40 UT. This is the perihelion roll, which was pushed back because of the extra roll that occurred in March. Other * A SUMI sounding rocket launch is scheduled for Apr 16. * A SUMER campaign is scheduled for Apr 15-29. * A new launch date for the HERSCHEL sounding rocket has not yet been announced. * APL is gathering system requirements from the instrument teams for the planned G&C upgrades, when the instruments will be powered down and back up again. The upgrades are still in the process of being approved. The activity is tentatively scheduled to occur on Behind on May 12, when a 70 meter track is scheduled. The upgrade is being performed first on Behind, because it has two working IMUs. It was expressed that Behind is most important scientifically, because of its use for space weather forecasting. * The G&C upgrades for Ahead would be scheduled later, in the June/July timeframe. * The dates for switching switching telemetry rates have been pushed back. The switch to 360 kbps is now scheduled for August/September.
