STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2006-12-05 (Week 49) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * The instrument doors on the SECCHI Sun-Centered Instrument Package (SCIP) suite were opened on the Ahead spacecraft on December 4th. Initial images were taken of the Sun and solar corona. All indications are that the instruments are working correctly. INSTRUMENT AND SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * The SECCHI and PLASTIC instruments were successfully powered back on after the P3 perigee and eclipse. This is the last planned power outage for the instruments. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 48: * Turned off the SECCHI decontamination heaters. * Passed through the P3 perigee on Nov 29. Performed a MAG calibration roll and HGA slew. SECCHI and PLASTIC were powered on after the slew. Week 49: * Opened the SECCHI SCIP doors on Dec. 4th. * Passed through A4 apogee on Dec. 5th. * A major solar flare occured on Dec. 5th. SECCHI was not observing at the time. SWAVES data was not yet available. * Realtime calibration of the SECCHI Guide Telescope (GT) on Ahead on Dec 6. The SECCHI team will send small offpoints of up to 80 arcseconds to G&C for calibration. SECCHI wants to wait to allow some data to be downloaded from the SSR before initiating their 93 kbps rate for this test. * The Behind spacecraft will undergo a small 10 second A4+ delta-V maneuver on Dec 6, at 20:00 UT. The backup maneuver is scheduled for Thursday, also at 20:00 UT. During the maneuver the spacecraft will be switching to the +Z LGA. * Mission operations is preparing for a new DSN web-based interface. This will be tested on Thursday. The interface to the instrument teams, including the format of the DSN schedule files, will not change. * Will start spaceweather beacon broadcast post-track on Thursday. The rate will drop to 633 bps, convolutional 1/6th. Rutherford Appleton Laboratory may be able to record telemetry. Other beacon stations may be able to test tracking the spacecraft. The NOAA software is not ready yet for sending the beacon telemetry to the SSC. * Friday will be performing an HGA calibration to find the beam center. This will involve rolling the spacecraft by +/- 2 degrees and stepping the HGA in half degree increments. This test will be repeated in the future. * Sunday will be performing a short test of sending data at 720 kbps on the HGA. * SECCHI plans to open their SCIP-B doors on Dec. 13th and performing a GT calibration on Dec. 16th. The GT calibration needs to complete 30 minutes before the beginning of track. SECCHI will start the activity at 09:50 UT and finish by 11:20 UT. * Mission Ops is going to try changing some parameters on the spacecraft to damp out the jitter. They will do this sometime before the 15th on Ahead. Higher rate GT data is desirable--SECCHI and APL will coordinate this activity. * Mission Ops will be doing a power test on Monday, Dec 11, as well as testing auto-tracking on the HGA. * The SECCHI HI door on Ahead will be opened Monday, Dec 11. This requires 93 kbps realtime rate. * The last perigee P4 will occur on Dec 12th, at 08:30 for Ahead, and 09:54 for Behind. Perigee will be above 6600 km for both spacecraft. * The 3rd IMPACT MAG calibration roll will be performed On the outbound side of P4, starting about one hour after perigee. This will include a slew of the HGA, but no SECCHI participation is required. * Space weather broadcast will be stopped on Monday, Dec 11th, and resumed on Wednesday, Dec 13th. * The first lunar swingby will occur on Friday, December 15th, at 21:03 for Behind, and 21:27 for Ahead. There will be track coverage for both spacecraft during the swingby. Ahead will pass over the Moon at about 5600 km altitude, and Behind at about 10,000 km altitude. Week 51: * Ahead has daily tracks of about 3 hours. * There are potential maneuvers for Behind at S1+ (Prime: Dec 21, Backup: Dec 23), and at A5 (Prime: Jan 8th, Backup: January 11th). We'll know better next week whether these maneuvers are needed. There are no P4 maneuvers, and no more maneuvers for Ahead. * Now that maneuvers are over for Ahead, will start needing to do momentum dumps. The first is scheduled for Dec. 21st. It's not clear yet how often these momentum dumps will be needed, possibly on the order of once every 20 days. The cadence will be different for Ahead and Behind. * The first SWAVES calibration roll is planned for December 18th on Ahead, and December 19th on Behind. Other: * STE-B maneuver should be done before opening IMPACT doors. Mission Ops is still trying to figure out how to do this maneuver. The SECCHI team has an action item to determine whether they're concerned about possible 10 degree offpoints after their door is open. * Status of HI maneuvers: The 180 degree and flat-field roll maneuvers have been tested. The 90/270 degree roll maneuver is ready to be tested. The stray light offpoint maneuver is still in development.
