STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2006-11-08 (Week 45)

ANNOUNCEMENTS
-------------

* The optional delta-V maneuver at A2 has been cancelled.

* Next week adding A2+ maneuver on day 318 (Ahead 14:00, Behind: 16:00), with
  day 319 as backup.

* The next meeting will return to its regular Tuesday 12:30 ET date and time.


INSTRUMENT AND SPACECRAFT STATUS
--------------------------------

* Operations have been smooth so far.  Maneuvers have been nominal.


DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS
-------------------------------------

Maneuvers:

* Some future maneuvers may be canceled, but that still has to be determined
  and will be affected by the outcomes of future maneuvers.

* Instrument teams want to know if they will be turned off during maneuvers.
  Instruments will probably be off during P2 eclipse, although that is not
  final.  The decision for the A2+ maneuver will be made by Friday at the
  latest.

* SECCHI in particular would like to have the option of leaving heaters on
  during maneuvers if power is available, even if the macro is turned off.

* IMPACT will probably turn off during maneuvers

DSN:

* DSN schedule being changed. New schedule should be available by end of Friday
  Nov. 10. STEREO has one 3 hr track/day (per spacecraft), with 2 days of
  continuous coverage for maneuvers next week.

* During continuous coverage solid state recorder dumps are still being
  made except during maneuver periods.

* A back up antenna is needed for P2 maneuver.  DSN is working on details.

Instruments:

IMPACT:

* The IMPACT team is finding that the STEU are saturated when they are not in
  the dark. This is thought to be due to the Earth, but that will not be
  certain until the spacecraft move farther away. Preliminary data from the
  eclipse looks like all detectors ok. No science data expected until
  Heliospheric orbit.

* Two or three days are needed to check out SEP, so IMPACT may want to move
  that check out to a later date when they can get a few days without having to
  turn off the instrument.

SECCHI:

* SECCHI calibration in week 46.

* Guide telescope to be enabled in week 45

PLASTIC:

* PLASTIC is working with their high voltages. They do a little of this
  everyday and are pretty flexible about the exact time they do it.

STEREO Science Center:

* Currently ingesting both Flight Dynamics and Mission Planning
  ephemerides. The Flight Dynamics predictive ephemerides don't include the
  results of the maneuvers. These will eventually be combined into a single
  product.

* SECCHI and PLASTIC data are currently being ingested.

* SSC is producing a simplified version of weekly plan. Please tell Bill
  Thompson if you notice any thing on it which is wrong or incomplete.

Other:

* The question that was raised was whether the orbit of the Behind spacecraft
  could be tweaked within the specifications of the current mission design to
  reduce the amount of time that the SPE angle (between the Sun and Earth as
  viewed from Behind) is in the range from 53 to 70 degrees. This is when the
  effect of Earth on the stray light in HI-2B is worst. If the time spent in
  this range of SPE angles could be reduced by even a few days, that would
  benefit the science return from HI-B.  This is _not_ related to the increase
  in the Behind aphelion distance.  The specific orbital change being studied
  would have ramifications for IMPACT and PLASTIC however, and is not currently
  being planned.
