STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2026-01-20 (Week 4) ANNOUNCEMENTS ------------- * None INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS -------------------------------- * Ahead is operating nominally. PLASTIC is in operational mode, but with a moderately higher than normal background rate. * Four years after the initial loss of communications anomaly with the Behind observatory, NASA has directed to cease periodic recovery operations with the last support on October 17, 2018. DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS ------------------------------------- Week 3 (Jan 12-18) * On day 014 (Jan 14), during the DSS-25 support, turbo decoder lock was lost briefly at 14:48 UT. This anomaly resulted in the loss of eight frames of SSR data. The MOPs team repositioned the SSR pointers during the support and recovered all the affected data. * On day 017 (Jan 17), during the DSS-65 support, turbo decoder lock was lost intermittently between 04:10 and 05:05 UT, due to rain and low elevation. This anomaly resulted in the loss of 11299 frames of SSR data. The MOPs team repositioned the SSR pointers during the support and recovered all the affected data. See DR# M118733 for more information. * The average daily science data return for Ahead was 7.7 Gbits during this week. Week 4 (Jan 19-25) * Ahead has fourteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The MOC noticed this morning that some housekeeping files were being produced with invalid time values. They believe this may be caused by a known integer overflow problem, and are working on fixing it. The affected files can and will be corrected, though the timeframe for the corrections is currently unknown. It is recommended that the SSC and instrument teams inspect the level-0 files produced after day 19 and let the MOC know about any issues with the time stamps. Week 5 (Jan 26 - Feb 1) * Ahead has fifteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Week 6 (Feb 2-8) * Ahead has fifteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 78th SECCHI stepped calibration roll is scheduled for Monday, February 2nd, at 07:35 UT. * The Artemis II launch opportunity window opens on Friday, February 6th. There may be schedule adjustments for weeks 6-8 in the near future. Week 7 (Feb 9-15) * Ahead has sixteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. * The 183rd momentum dump is scheduled for Wednesday, February 11th, at 17:45 UT. * The 25th Solar Orbiter remote sensing window begins Thursday, February 12th. Week 8 (Feb 16-22) * Ahead has fifteen passes during the week, fourteen at 720 kbps, and one ESA support at 480 kbps. Overall coverage is nominal. * On Tuesday, February 17th, an ESA New Norcia track is scheduled from 18:05 to 18:55 UT. This track will be at 480 kbps, and it is planned to use this rate for all ESA support tracks going forward. Owen will monitor the distrubution of DSN and ESA tracks to ensure that all data continues to be collected with the new, lower ESA downlink rate. Week 9 (Feb 23 - Mar 1) * Ahead has thirteen passes during the week, all at 720 kbps, and overall coverage is nominal. Other * Dan Wilson reiterated that he plans to put together the annual spacecraft health assessment in approximately mid-February, and welcomes the instrument teams and SSC to contribute a slide.
