STEREO Weekly Meeting Minutes for 2009-07-21 (Week 30)

ANNOUNCEMENTS
-------------

* The STEREO Science Center website is back online. There are still a few
scripts that aren't working yet, but the popular image search tool
http://stereodata.nascom.nasa.gov/cgi-bin/images and the STEREO orbit tool
http://stereodata.nascom.nasa.gov/where/ are working again. Thanks go to our
system administrator, Amy Forinash, for getting it all working again.

INSTRUMENT and SPACECRAFT STATUS
--------------------------------

* All subsystems on both spacecraft are nominal.

DISCUSSION AND OPERATIONS CONSTRAINTS
-------------------------------------

Week 29

* No significant activities were planned.

* On day 196, during the DSS 25 support, about 5 minutes of SECCHI SSR image
data, from APIDs 0x443 and 0x444, were not received, beginning at day
195-2325Z. As all ground station and MOC equipment was operating nominally,
  the cause is unknown.

* The average daily SSR downlink was 5.6 gigabits on Ahead, and 6.5 gigabits on
  Behind.

Week 30

* The 17th momentum dump on Behind is scheduled for Thursday, day 204 (Jul 23),
  with ignition at 23:45 UT.

* The Herschel sounding rocket flight is scheduled for Jul 21, at 19:10 UT.

* A total solar eclipse will occur on Jul 22. It will pass through China
  between 01:10 and 01:40 UT.

* The SECCHI team have received no specific requests to support either the
Herschel sounding rocket or the eclipse. Their default plan is to run their
special event blocks during these events. Because the events are so close
together, there is insufficient room to run their normal special event
program for both events. Preference will be given to the eclipse, or they
may split their observations into two halves to support both.

Week 31

* An early momentum dump will be carried out on Ahead on day 209 (Jul 28), with
ignition starting at 12:30 UT. This is to target a low momentum for the
  reset on the following week.

* The 7th HI 180 degree roll on Ahead will take place on Wednesday, July 29,
  starting at 21:50 UT.

Week 32

* The 7th HI 180 degree roll on Behind will take place on Wednesday, Aug 5,
  starting at 15:50 UT.

* The G&C update, and associated reset, has been scheduled for Ahead on Aug 4
at 9:40 UT, with a backup date on Aug 5. This activity will be carried out
on station 14, which is a 70 meter dish. There will be a 3 hour track very
early in the morning, starting at 5:45 UT, for powering down HV on IMPACT and
PLASTIC. This will be closely followed by the main 8 hour track on station
14 starting at 9:40 UT. As with the previous reset on Behind, it is planned
to power down the instruments with time-tagged commands, 5 minutes apart.
IMPACT and PLASTIC will power off at 09:40, followed by SECCHI at 09:45, and
SWAVES at 09:50 UT. The system reset is expected to occur at 10:20 UT,
followed by the recovery activities. The round-trip light travel time will
be around 15m40s, which is about 2 minutes longer than during the Behind
reset. This will make the recovery time longer, which is accommodated by a
longer track. It is expected that the instruments will start powering up
  around 15:00 UT.

* There is another 8 hour track on the next day. If not needed for backup,
this track will be used to continue instrument recovery. There is also a
five hour track later in the day, which will be used for IMPACT/SEPT
recovery. IMPACT/SIT recovery will proceed on Thursday, continuing on Friday
  if needed.

* PLASTIC and SWAVES will be performing their recoveries from their home
institutions. IMPACT will be performing part of their recovery from
  Berkeley, and part from APL.

* There was some discussion about the need for a guard to let instrument teams
in to APL during the early hour passes for the reset activity.

* Because of the reset and recovery operations, it was decided to move the
regular weekly telecon to Monday, Aug 3, at the usual time of 12:30.

* A timeline for the recovery operations should be sent out to the instrument
teams by the end of the week.

Week 33

* The track duration for both spacecraft will increase to 6 hours in
preparation for switching to 360 kbps. The actual switch will occur for
Ahead on day 229 (Aug 17), and for Behind on day 251 (Sep 8). This will
maintain an RF margin of 2 dB.

* The 8th SECCHI HI 180 degree roll will occur on Ahead on day 225 (Aug 13)
  starting at 01:50 UT.

Other

* IMPACT and PLASTIC currently plan not to install monitoring software on their
POC workstations, and will instead forgo internet access. There are concerns
about the effect this software would have on operations.

* Station 15 is expected to be back online on day 202 (Jul 21).

* The MOC is almost back to normal operations after their internet outage.
